PAINTING CONTRACTOR MYTHS

MYTH #1:
I should choose a Contractor/Painting Company that offers the lowest painting estimate.

TRUTH:
This is one of the oldest misconceptions in painting.  If the Contractor gives the customer a lower unrealistic price just to get the job, then after the job begins the customer is ‘hit’ with many up charges for an upgraded paint product, additional coats of paint, charges for additional colors and so on.

Our company will give you a detailed estimate up front.  Our estimates are thorough and explain all services, paint products, expected time to complete the job and any other pertinent information up front prior to the job commencing. Our customers are not ‘surprised’ by up charges while the job is in progress. 

MYTH #2:
Painting Contractors are so busy that they don’t care about my job and will probably not pay attention to my needs or requests. 

TRUTH:
Many construction / renovation related trades are busy and have given their customer’s poor service.   With today’s new home, re-sale and renovation market contractors are busier than ever.  If you are dealing with a reliable, top notch company and or contractor they should be able to service your needs and pay attention to details of your contract regardless of the hectic industry we are experiencing.

MYTH #3:
If I want multiple colors, the painting contractor will up charge me on each additional color I choose.  

TRUTH:
Professional painting contractors should not have to up charge their customer’s for additional paint colors.  If the customer has been quoted *two coat coverage it doesn’t matter what colors are going on the walls as long as there is two coats. 
*Note:  Some colors (deep tone/dark colors, reds etc…) may require several coats in order to achieve the correct color depth.  Customers should consult with their contractor or paint store to obtain the correct information for the number of coats (primer/paint) required to complete the application and to achieve the correct depth/tone of color.

Our company does not charge for color changes.  If the estimate has been quoted for two coats the customer can choose any colors they so desire.  If our customer’s select darker toned colors after the initial estimate has been completed we will advise our customer’s upfront and obtain approval for any additional material costs and labour charges prior to commencing with the job. 

MYTH #4:
It is cheaper if I paint myself.  

TRUTH:
This is another misconception.  Customer’s should calculate their time (number of actual hours) to complete a simple or complex painting project.  Time is money and often the simplest of projects can turn into an extensive undertaking which takes much longer than they first anticipate.  Costs of purchasing the necessary materials (tape, paper, drop sheets, rollers, brushes and paint) can add additional costs to the job that the customer did not initially anticipate.  The retail cost to purchase ‘high quality’ paint product and the actual amount of paint an amateur painter uses can really add up when the painting work is finally completed.

MYTH #5:
If I proceed with painting I have to move out all my furniture, it’s messy and it will take forever to get the job finished. 
 
TRUTH:
Dealing with a professional painting contractor there should be no need to move furniture.  The painting process should be quick, clean and completed in a timely fashion.  All furniture can be covered and draped over with plastic or cloth drop sheets to minimalize the airborne dust present during painting renovations.
